How our technology is being used to develop insurance policies that support AI and IoT based lifestyles.

Informetis Co., Ltd. (CEO: Taro Tadano, hereinafter “”Informetis””) is happy to announce that our power analysis technology (including our original NILM) is set to be used in validation testing targeting new products and services that make use of advanced digital technologies to be implemented by our joint venture and three major enterprises in property insurance, power and communication fields.

In an announcement on 8 September 2020, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. (President: Noriyuki Hara, hereinafter “”Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance””), a member of the MS & AD Insurance Group, TEPCO Power Grid, Inc. (President: Yoshinori Kaneko, hereinafter “”TEPCO PG””), NTT DOCOMO Co., Ltd. (President: Kazuhiro Yoshizawa, hereinafter “”DOCOMO””), Energy Gateway Co., Ltd. (President: Hiroyuki Hayashi, hereinafter “”Energy Gateway””) have committed to a basic agreement related to R&D of new products and services that make the most of advanced digital technology, in which they will launch validation testing in FY2020 to support disaster prevention, disaster mitigation, energy saving and home monitoring to ascertain human activities and detect abnormalities via the collection and analysis of home power usage data.

In validation testing, TEPCO PG and Energy Gateway make use of a high-precision power sensor for collecting and analyzing power usage data, provided to users via an app, and DOCOMO provides a mobile phone line as well as a validation test using “”docomo IoT Managed Service”” to operate and manage the testing. In addition, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance analyzes the correlation between the collected and analyzed power usage data and the accident data it holds and the data owned by DOCOMO, to consider new products, including discounts on insurance premiums and expansion of coverage.

Informetis cooperate in this testing and product development through our in-house power analysis technology (headed by our NILM technology) used in the IoT platform utilized by our joint venture Energy Gateway.

Informetis will continue to promote the development of a wider range of power data applications, including this validation work, and continue to contribute to solving social issues through these applications.
